Kristen Verwey

Kristen Verwey is a junior lawyer with P2 Regulatory Solutions. She maintains a broad litigation practice, with a special focus on energy, environmental, and Aboriginal law. On an international level, Kristen focuses on trade and sanctions. Kristen has worked on files at all levels of court in Alberta, including Provincial Court, the Court of King’s Bench, and the Court of Appeal, and for regulatory tribunals including the Alberta Utilities Commission and the Alberta Electric Systems Operator. Her experience includes rates and facilities applications, service area and other disputes, and navigating engagement with multiple stakeholders. She is especially interested in complex disputes, negotiations, and using creative problem solving to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Kristen received her law degree from the University of Calgary in 2024, and has a prior Master’s Degree in Human Rights Law. During law school, Kristen summered at the Alberta Utilities Commission, where she gained insight into the workings and considerations of the tribunal, and volunteered for the University of Calgary's Energy Law Club and Environmental Law Club. She completed her articles at a large international firm, where she worked in the energy and litigation departments.

Prior to her Canadian practice, Kristen’s professional background was in Israeli-Palestinian peacebuilding projects, including for the former president and prime minister of Israel, Shimon Peres, and another Nobel-prize nominated international organization. She worked on several energy and environmental projects with joint Israeli, Palestinian, and Jordanian participation, including a landmark Israel–Middle East trade agreement, which was the largest in Israeli history at the time, exchanging desalinated water for solar power; joint efforts to restore watersheds and build sustainable water reservoirs; and cross-border electricity and sewage infrastructure development.

Kristen is an aspiring polyglot, and speaks English, Hebrew, and Italian at a working level proficiency, and intermediate level French.
